“I honestly cannot say enough good things about Katie. She cares so much about graduate students here at UNC, she cares so much about UNC, she truly wants to make things better for everyone that's here. She's just a good person. She's a good friend. She's thoughtful. I think those qualities are just as important as experience. So I really think she's got it all.”
Lauren Hawkinson, 2023-2024 GPSG president

“I think something she brings into every space that she's in is this really positive energy, and this ability to face potential challenges or potential gaps head on and really try to figure out a way around red tape or challenges that we may be facing”
Abhigna Rao, GPSG chief of staff

More about me

Hi, I'm Katie! I am a 5th year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering. I previously served as a Senator for Biomedical Engineering and currently serve as the Senior Vice President for GPSG. These roles have given me the opportunity to learn from many Graduate and Professional students, each with a diverse background, field of study, and stage in life.

As your president, my goal will be to ensure that Graduate and Professional students feel like they belong as a part of the Carolina community. I am dedicated to improving students' well-being by fighting for a comprehensive Bill of Rights, safeguarding protected time off, reasonable work hours, minimum wellness days and holidays, and protecting our comprehensive healthcare coverage. I will work to increase transparency and improve communication within GPSG, ensuring that our priorities are clearly communicated and processes are simplified. It's crucial that the services we provide, such as emergency funding, travel awards, and student advocacy, are more accessible and user-friendly. I will also encourage collaboration with the undergraduate student government and engage with the university's leadership to ensure we can effectively act on the needs of our community. I will advocate for better academic support for our students, including useful career services, support for advisor/student relationships, aid with resources like ARS, and better training and support for TAs and Graduate Student instructors of record.
